96 Outward Bound-Fahrt Klassen 10RI, 10RII und 10G Holger Zimbelius The week begins with a 6-hour bus ride to the southern reaches of Germany, Schwangau. After a difficult bus approach to our accommodations, we take a short tour of the beautiful facilities and our rooms. The afternoon begins with outdoor activities. The day ends with dinner- vegetarian. The three classes are led by altogether 4 experienced trainers, whose job it is to entice the kids to leaving their “comfort zones”. We are in this together for ourselves as classes, but we are in this for ourselves, too. Climbing up trees, rivers, walls and even mountains, building rafts or simply doing the “Flying Fox,” this is about overcoming resistance, communicating, empathizing with co-students. Activities are introduced and finished off with planning and reflexion. The overall dynamic is positive. Why? Because the students are taken seriously by the trainers – and the students learn to make and take their own decisions seriously. As a teacher, it is enlightening to see a certain spark in the eyes of these young people. Something is ignited and needs to be ignited again and again. We want to make this fire really big.
